Not just anyone can take the wheel of a classic car – and that’s a good thing. DRIVESHARE only allows approved drivers to get behind the wheel, so everyone can enjoy peace of mind.

If you’re planning to rent a car for driving, or want to make sure your co-pilot can share the experience, here’s what you need to know.

Get approved

To drive any vehicle listed on DRIVESHARE, you need to complete our one-time driver verification process. It’s quick and secure, and you’ll be guided through it when you request your first rental. We check your driving history to make sure it meets our eligibility criteria. Once you’re approved, you’re cleared to drive on any future booking – not just your own.

A Certain Age

All DRIVESHARE drivers must be at least 25 years old, with no exceptions. This applies to renters, additional drivers, and anyone who wants to get behind the wheel. It’s one of the ways we help protect owners’ vehicles and ensure each driving experience is as safe and smooth as possible. If you or anyone in your party is under 25, you can still book a chauffeured or event-only rental – but you won’t be able to drive.

Foreign Affairs

We can verify U.S. driver’s licenses automatically through the site. If you have a foreign or international license, get in touch with us at support@driveshare.com. You’ll need to provide your driving record, a copy of your license, and ID.

Riding Shotgun

If your passengers also want to drive, they must be approved DRIVESHARE drivers too. Otherwise, they’ll need to ride shotgun. As the renter, you’re responsible for the vehicle at all times – including pick-up and drop-off – and for making sure that no one drives who isn’t approved. If someone does, you’ll be liable for any damage or fines.

Stick with it

Many classic cars on DRIVESHARE have manual transmissions. If you’re not confident driving stick, don’t book one. If you do, and the owner cancels, you won’t be entitled to a refund.

Ready to drive?

If you’re planning a rental, or even just browsing, it’s worth getting approved ahead of time – especially if you’re booking for a special occasion or a tight schedule. The process can take up to 72 hours, so don’t leave it too late. Want to get started? Log in and request your first booking – we’ll guide you from there.
