Your wedding car is one of the few details that does double duty. It's part of the day — the arrival, the photographs, the moment you drive off together — and it's part of the memory that stays long after the day is done.

We've written before about choosing the perfect car for your wedding, and the principles haven't changed. But the cars do — every year there are new arrivals on DRIVESHARE, and a clear set of models that keep being booked again and again. Here's the current list.

Why a classic, and not a modern luxury car?

A modern Mercedes or Bentley feels comfortable, but it doesn't make people stop and look. A classic does. Wedding photographers will tell you the same thing — a beautiful old car gives every shot a frame, a focal point, and a sense of occasion that's almost impossible to manufacture any other way.

It also says something about you. The car you choose is part of the story you're telling about your day.

The most-booked classic wedding cars on DRIVESHARE

1. Rolls-Royce — the timeless choice

There's a reason every wedding magazine still photographs Rolls-Royces. A Silver Cloud or Phantom does what nothing else does — it makes the day feel important. Most are booked with a chauffeur, which means you don't have to think about anything except getting in and getting out.

Best for: traditional weddings, large bridal parties, any couple who wants the most photographed car on the day.

2. Classic Ford Mustang — the cool, modern-classic choice

The '65–'70 Mustang has become the most-booked wedding car on DRIVESHARE, full stop. It works for couples who want something with energy, something photogenic without being stiff, and something where the groom (or bride) is happy to do the driving.

Best for: smaller weddings, photoshoot-heavy days, couples who want the car to feel like part of the celebration rather than a chauffeur-driven prop.

3. Jaguar — quietly elegant

A classic Jaguar — an E-Type, an XK, an old Mk II — has the kind of British presence that suits an outdoor wedding, a country venue, or a quietly stylish couple who don't want to make a fuss but absolutely want to make an impression.

Best for: outdoor weddings, smaller and more intimate ceremonies, couples who care about design.

4. Cadillac convertible — Americana at its most romantic

A '59 Cadillac in cream or pink is one of those cars where the photos almost take themselves. Big tailfins, big bench seats, big drama. Pair it with a sunset and a coast road and the day's photography is essentially done.

Best for: West Coast weddings, vintage themes, anyone who wants the wedding photos to feel like a film still.

5. Mercedes-Benz SL or Pagoda — quiet luxury

A 280SL Pagoda or a 560SL is a beautifully understated choice. Less theatrical than a Cadillac, less iconic than a Mustang, but absolutely elegant — and ideal for couples who'd rather the car be a supporting actor than the headline.

Best for: modern weddings, smaller venues, couples with refined taste who don't want to feel ostentatious.

6. Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet — the personality car

If your wedding is built around colour, fun and personality, a vintage Beetle Cabriolet (especially in a bold paint colour) gives you something nobody else has. It also photographs brilliantly and tends to be more affordable than the headline names above.

Best for: outdoor and bohemian weddings, smaller bridal parties, couples who want to lean into something cheerful.

7. Pontiac Firebird or Camaro Convertible — for the muscle car couple

If you're both into cars, there's no point pretending otherwise. A Firebird Convertible or a classic Camaro turns the wedding car into part of the celebration in a different way — the sound, the look, the rumble down the driveway.

Best for: enthusiast couples, weddings with car-loving guests, couples who want something different.

8. Triumph Spitfire or MG — the small British convertible

Not the right call if you're wearing a big dress (the boot and the cabin are both small), but for an intimate elopement or a registry-office wedding followed by a drive to the reception, they're enormous fun and beautifully cinematic.

Best for: elopements, smaller weddings, country-road getaways.

Self-drive or chauffeured?

This is the question we get most often, and the honest answer is: it depends on the car, the day, and the dress.

Self-drive works brilliantly if one of you is comfortable behind the wheel of a classic, if the venue is close, and if the car is something you'd genuinely enjoy driving. It tends to be cheaper too.

Chauffeured makes more sense for grand cars (Rolls-Royce, Bentley, big-fin Cadillacs), for longer journeys, and for any day where you don't want to be thinking about parking, fuel or the choke on a 50-year-old engine. The owner or their driver handles the wheel, and you can focus on the day.

How far in advance should you book?

The honest answer: as soon as you know your venue and date. Wedding-friendly classics get booked up to 12 months ahead in peak season (May–September in the US, slightly different elsewhere). For winter weddings or weekday ceremonies, you've usually got more flexibility.

Booking checklist

  • Confirm the rental type with the owner (self-drive, event, chauffeured)
  • Check the pickup and dropoff timing — most event rentals are time-limited rather than full days
  • Ask about decoration: ribbons, flowers, signage — what's allowed and what isn't
  • Confirm the route in advance so the owner can flag any issues
  • Build in a buffer — wedding days run late, and classics need patience
  • Get the owner's direct contact for the day itself
