Meet Nicki Rasmussen, a BookAclassic by DRIVESHARE owner from Denmark, who has a true family heirloom on his hands: a 1967 Volvo 121, more commonly known as Amazon. The car has been in his family since 1972 and carries stories across two generations.

Why did you join DRIVESHARE?

I decided to register my car on BookAclassic by DRIVESHARE, because I thought that I would be able to share some of the magic of classic cars with others, and similarly because I wanted to be able to give people a super special experience on their already special occasions, such as weddings and the like.

Tell us about your car

I own a 1967 Volvo 121, or as it's more commonly known, Amazon. The car has been in my family's possession since 1972, which was when my now deceased uncle bought it. He passed away in 2020, and I've been the owner of it since.

What are some of your most memorable experiences with this car?

The car has always held a special place in my life. For as long as I can remember, it was there whenever my uncle came to visit or took me on trips, quietly weaving itself into my childhood memories. In his later years, the roles reversed, and I began taking him out on Sunday drives – moments that became some of our most cherished times together.

Even now, I sometimes joke with my father that my uncle is still riding alongside me in the Amazon, his spirit as much a part of the car as anything else.

During his years of ownership, my uncle drove the Amazon all across Europe –Albania, Portugal, Scotland, and countless places in between. Looking through old photo albums can feel almost surreal: one moment, I’m staring at a faded snapshot of the car perched on the edge of a mountain road; the next, I flip it over and see the words “Portugal, 1986.”

That continuity – the same car, the same stories, the same steel carrying two generations – makes me feel a deep responsibility to keep his legacy alive. At 24, I fully intend to enjoy this car for as long as I can, in his memory.

How do you use the car today?

These days, I try to take it out on the road whenever possible, whether it’s just for a relaxing evening cruise or a road trip with friends. I bring it to most of the local classic car shows, and it has even made appearances at larger events around Denmark. On certain summers, especially during my university years, it even served as my daily driver – a faithful companion through the ordinary and the extraordinary alike.

How do you maintain and look after your car?

Mechanically, the car has been kind to me. Aside from regular servicing and a few small bodywork repairs, it has needed very little, despite the many miles it has seen. I’ve done nearly all the work myself, which has kept things affordable and rewarding.

Still, I have bigger plans for the future: within the next decade, I want to give it a full nuts-and-bolts restoration – not because it is in dire need of saving, but because it deserves to shine at 110%, just as it did in my uncle’s hands.

I do collect a bit of automobilia, mostly cool vintage brochures and books, with the occasional tins and plaques sneaking in. In general, I have a pretty nice little collection of vintage motor-related things, including mopeds, motorcycles and a few other cars.

Thank you, Nicki, for sharing your Volvo Amazon with the DRIVESHARE community. You can check out Nicki’s profile here.
