This week we are heading to Williamson, Georgia, where Sully Deel shares the story behind his 1966 Ford Mustang. From a family connection to a growing wedding and events setup, it’s a car that quickly became part of both his life and his work.

How did you come to own your Mustang?

I purchased the car from my uncle, who asked me to drive it down to my dad’s house so that my dad could sell it for him. I instantly fell in love with the car and tried to think of any way that I could possibly afford to buy it for myself.

Fortunately, we run a wedding venue and live on a beautiful farm where people come and have photo sessions all the time. It was easy. Rent the car for wedding sendoffs and photo sessions.

What made you fall in love with the car?

It was driving the car for myself that drew me to it. I just loved it so much. Renting it has brought so much joy. I’ve gotten to see it used in several wedding send offs and even a music video.

We recently had the car at an Instagram event in Atlanta, with Usher, called “carversations”. Following that event, it was featured in several news articles including one on CBS News.

Have you carried out any work on the car?

Right after I got the car, I installed a set of four brand new powered disc brakes, brand new wheels, and brand new tires.

When I bought the car, it had an overheating problem, but I installed a new radiator and it has been smooth sailing ever since.

What memories stand out most?

We have had a few friends get married at our venue this year and I allowed them to use the car for their sendoffs free of charge. It brought me a lot of joy to see my friends driving it and experiencing that for themselves.

How do you store and maintain it?

I either keep the car in my carport or inside of our barn if the weather is looking bad. It never sits out in the rain or sun.

Do you hope to pass it down?

I’ll probably keep this car forever and pass it down to my son because it is my first classic and has brought me a lot of joy and has given me a lot of memories.

What makes this car special?

A 1966 Ford Mustang is one of the most recognizable and beautiful classic cars ever built. And candy apple red? I mean come on, you can’t beat it.

Thank you, Sully, for sharing your story. You can check out Sully's Mustang on DRIVESHARE here, where it’s available for event rental.
