This week we’re heading to Montana, where Pro-Owner Kevin Schindler shares the story of his beautifully restored 1979 Ford F-150. A lifelong Montana truck with just three owners, it’s a vehicle rooted in place, history and personal pride.

What do you share on DRIVESHARE?

I share my 1979 Ford F-150, which was purchased new in Billings, Montana. It has only had three owners and has been a Montana truck its whole life. The place it was restored and painted is only ten miles from the dealership it was bought at in 1978.

How did you come to own it?

I’ve always loved old trucks, and getting to restore this one was amazing. When I got the truck, it had faded paint, a peeling clear coat and no engine. Now it’s fully restored.

Today, the truck features a recently installed carbureted 7.5 460 engine, paired with an automatic transmission. Everything looks as it should, and it runs and sounds perfect.

What memories stand out most?

My most memorable experiences have been taking this truck to rodeos and really feeling the Montana history it has. Being able to drive it in the same places it’s always belonged makes those moments special.

Have you carried out any restoration work?

Yes, the truck has been fully restored. When I found it, it was tired and incomplete, and bringing it back to life has been a really rewarding process. Seeing it finished and back on the road makes all the effort worth it.

How do you store and maintain it?

I keep the truck in a carport currently. It’s well cared for and ready to be enjoyed.

Do you hope to pass it down one day?

I’d love to pass it down to my kids when I have them. It feels like the kind of truck that should stay in the family.

What do you enjoy most about sharing it?

I mainly use the truck for events. It’s great seeing people connect with it and appreciate the history it carries, especially here in Montana where trucks like this are part of everyday life.
