The safety and security of our DRIVESHARE community is vital to us. We want both our owners and renters to have peace of mind when it comes to insurance coverage, so they can focus on enjoying the ride.
To make things easier, in this blog post we’ve put together a useful guide to the insurance options available for both driving rentals, chauffeur and event rentals.
For DRIVESHARE Owners
Is insurance available with every rental?
Yes, DRIVESHARE provides coverage for all driving rentals. Renters have three choices during checkout, offering up to $1 million in liability coverage for both bodily injury and property damage for every rental period:

Chauffeur and Event Rentals
Owners can add insurance for chauffeur and event rentals, which includes up to $1 million in liability coverage for both bodily injury and property damage for every rental period, as well as collision coverage up to the vehicle’s agreed value listed on the DRIVESHARE website. This is also subject to the terms, conditions, and exclusions of the policy.
One important exclusion is that driving rentals are not available for vehicles registered in New York State, and our chauffeur/event insurance is not applicable to any trips starting or ending in New York State. However, vehicles registered in other states can be driven into New York, but trips must begin and vehicles must be picked up outside of New York.
Who sets the insured value?
The vehicle’s insured value is set by the owner and agreed upon by DRIVESHARE prior to listing on the platform. Values are verified using the top industry vehicle valuation tools. In the event of a total loss, you will receive up to the value amount listed on the DRIVESHARE platform.
How do I know my car will be safe?
At DRIVESHARE, we do everything in our power to protect the owner and their vehicle. Before potential renters can get behind the wheel, they must meet our stringent eligibility criteria. DRIVESHARE performs comprehensive background audits. (For more information on renter requirements, please refer to our policies page.) Once a renter has paid and passed all our audits, they can confirm a booking.
Flexible Insurance Options
Insurance is calculated based on each vehicle’s value and added as a separate cost for the renter or owner, depending on the rental type. For driving rentals, the customer chooses an insurance package, and the cost is added to the Rental Price and paid by them. For chauffeur and event rentals, owners can choose whether to supply their own insurance or add our insurance for a fee calculated using the car’s value. This gives owners more flexibility, and the pricing for insurance is more competitive as it's based on the car’s value.
For DRIVESHARE Renters
Is insurance available with every rental?
Yes. You can choose from three coverage options during checkout, with up to $1 million in liability coverage for both bodily injury and property damage. This coverage is subject to the terms, conditions, and exclusions of the policy.
Flexible Insurance Choices
When booking a driving rental, you will have three insurance packages to choose from (see illustration above), each offering different levels of coverage to suit your needs. The insurance fee will be added to the total price for the rental.
Chauffeur and Event Rentals
For chauffeur and event rentals, the owner can choose to provide their own insurance or opt for DRIVESHARE’s insurance coverage. If DRIVESHARE insurance is chosen, the cost will be added to the rental price.
