This week we’re heading to Guildford in the UK, where Neil shares his 1978 Triumph Spitfire 1500 on BookAclassic by DRIVESHARE.

From a full restoration in the 1990s to a trip to Guernsey and back, it’s a car that has seen a fair bit over the years. We sat down with Neil to hear more about his classic vehicle.

How has the car’s journey evolved over time?

It was originally registered in 1978 before having a nut and bolt restoration in the early 1990’s when it lived in Cumbria. It was then sold to someone in Guernsey in the early 2000’s.

How did you come to own the car?

I then went over to Guernsey to view the car in November 2022 with a couple of friends. I bought the car but we then got stuck in Guernsey as the ferries had been cancelled and after giving the car the shock of its life by driving up the M3 at 60mph.

Then Brexit got in the way when having to register the car back in the UK, along with the need to get an agent to register the import of the car. There was 5% VAT to pay (a new requirement since Brexit), so it was finally registered again with its original number plate in February 2023.

Has the car won any awards?

In the 1990’s this car won awards including coming first and Best in Show at events like the Doune Car Show, Beamish Classic Car Show and other events in the Northwest and Scotland.

What work has been done on the car since you’ve owned it?

Since owning it, it has had new carburettors, a new fuel pump, a headlamp upgrade and new door handles.

What makes this car a good fit for rental?

It’s a straightforward, usable classic that’s well suited to a range of bookings. Whether it’s for film, commercial work or general hire, it offers something that’s period-correct without being overly complex, and has been kept in a condition where it can be used regularly.
