Whether you're in Arizona, Andalusia or Australia, summer heat puts classic cars under a different kind of pressure. Unlike modern vehicles, most classics were built without advanced cooling systems or UV-resistant coatings.

That doesn't mean they can't handle the summer, it just means a little extra attention goes a long way. Here are the DRIVESHARE team's tips for protecting your car in the hot weather.

Keep an eye on cooling

Overheating is the most common summer problem for classics and the most avoidable. Check coolant levels before every drive and inspect the radiator for leaks or clogged fins. Hoses and belts dry out and crack faster in extreme heat, so give them a look too.

Keep an eye on your temperature gauge on the road, and avoid heavy traffic during the hottest part of the day where you can. Stop-and-go conditions are where older engines struggle most.

Protect the paint

UV rays fade paint and damage clear coats faster than most owners realize, especially on darker colors. A good wax or ceramic coating creates a protective barrier. Wash regularly to stop contaminants baking into the surface, and park under cover wherever possible.

Check your tires

Heat causes air to expand inside tires, leaving them overinflated and more prone to blowouts. Check pressure when the tires are cold and adjust to the manufacturer's recommended level. Give the sidewalls a look for cracks or uneven wear too.

Interiors and upholstery

Cabin temperatures can climb fast in direct sunlight. A windscreen sunshade protects your dashboard, leather and upholstery from cracking and fading. A note in your handover instructions about parking in shade is a small detail renters genuinely appreciate.

Knowing your roads

Your local knowledge is what renters value most. If certain roads get dangerously hot or sit in full sun with no shade, suggest alternatives. Cooler times of day, shaded routes and scenic stops are often what people remember long after the drive.

Why this matters for your listing

Summer is a busy time for bookings. Many renters specifically want a warm weather experience like an open road, a coastal drive or a convertible at golden hour. So keeping your car summer-ready means you're ready for them.

If you're already in good shape, now is a great time to refresh your photos with some seasonal shots and make sure your listing notes are up to date. Why not log in right now?
